Introducing ACT’s new partnership with global charity, Médecins Sans Frontières

ACT, The Ardonagh Group's independent charity, and its Trustees are delighted today to announce its new partnership with the international humanitarian charity, Médecins Sans Frontières.

Following the end of ACT’s partnership with mental health charity Samaritans, ACT’s board of trustees were in search of a cause that complements the growing global make-up of The Ardonagh Group and one our people could get behind wherever they are in the world.

As a truly international charity, MSF, provides vital medical care in communities around the world where other organisations cannot, or will not, go in more than 70 countries, acting with total impartiality to save people’s lives in conflict zones, natural disasters, and epidemics.

To celebrate the start of our relationship with MSF, ACT is donating £30,000 to get our fundraising campaign underway, which will enable MSF to fund the anaesthesia and resuscitation equipment for two operating theatres.

For our first year in partnership, and with the support of our colleagues and businesses around the world, we aim to raise a total of £100,000.

This target would make an incredible difference to the communities MSF provides a lifeline to, a sum which could:

  • Fund 474 basic surgery kits for people in need. These are compact kits containing 25 surgical instruments sufficient for most examinations of complex wounds, or

  • Provide 1,000 hygiene kits, including soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, period products, sponges, laundry powder and other basic hygiene items, or

  • Fund the supply and construction of 90 multipurpose tents to be used as hospitals, feeding centres, cholera treatment camps or even short-term accommodation during a medical emergency.
"On behalf of ACT’s board of trustees, we are delighted to be supporting Médecins Sans Frontières for 2024 and beyond. As our group grows across the world, this feels like the natural next step for ACT to partner with a truly global cause and one that does such vital work against the backdrop of the war, natural disasters and mounting impacts of climate change that continue to unfold around us.
"The people of Ardonagh have proven time and time again their tenacity and unwavering commitment for causes and communities they’re passionate about and this latest relationship allows us as a collective to really make a difference in ways we’ve never been able to before. Myself and all our ACT trustees look forward to a successful and impactful partnership."
David Ross, The Ardonagh Group CEO and ACT Trustee
MSF respond not only to war and natural disasters, but also have long-term programmes in regions that don't have adequate health infrastructure.
From deploying paediatric nurses and establishing cholera treatment centres, to mental health programmes and off-road teams who can reach communities wherever they are – MSF have a whole range of projects.

Responding in times of need, no matter what and no matter where

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international humanitarian organisation. Since 1971, they have been treating people caught in complex crises and chronic healthcare emergencies around the world.

From paediatric nurses to off-road drivers, they are experts at working in fast-moving and highly insecure environments - whether it's launching a rapid response or delivering community care, MSF go wherever they are needed most. Entirely privately funded, with no government support, MSF are uniquely placed to act with complete independence and neutrality.

While their vital work often hits the headlines when there's an emergency such as an earthquake, war or disease outbreak, their teams are also running long-term medical programmes for vulnerable groups cut off from care, or speaking out about unseen suffering and the policies that cause it.

Doctors, nurses, logisticians, and a whole host of others are working around the world, 365 days a year to deliver care to those who need it.

"MSF UK are incredibly excited to embark on this partnership with Ardonagh and ACT. We share a deep understanding of the medical humanitarian challenges faced by so many forgotten people. Through the support that this partnership promises to bring, The Ardonagh Group will help us adhere to our core humanitarian principles – independence, neutrality and impartiality – that allow us to provide free medical treatment to populations in distress across the world, regardless of race, gender ethnicity, age or religion.
"We are thrilled that this will be a global partnership with Ardonagh’s businesses across all the countries in which we share offices, and we are very grateful to all those that wish to support our work. Together we really can make a positive impact on the lives of so many – thank you."
Denise Horrocks, Head of Philanthropy at MSF UK
